Characterization of L-asparagine transport systems in Stemphylium botryosum.

L-Asparagine uptake by Stemphylium botryosum is mediated by two distinct energy- and temperature-dependent transport systems. One permease is relatively specific for L-asparagine and L-glutamine and is present in nutrient-sufficient mycelium. The specific permease shows an optimum pH at 5.2, saturation kinetics (Km = 4.4 x 10(-4) M, Vmax = 1.1 mumol/g per min), competitive gradient of L-asparag...

Cultural and Physiological Variation Between Isolates of Stemphylium botryosum the Causal of Stemphylium Blight Disease of Lentil (Lens culinaris)

A total of four isolates of Stemphylium botryosum infected lentil were collected from lentil plants showing blight symptoms and grown at different areas of Bangladesh. The isolates were characterized in terms of cultural, morphological and physiological parameters. The isolates varied significantly in their cultural, morphological and physiological traits of colony color, shape, texture, conidi...

Stemphylium revisited

In 2007 a new Stemphylium leaf spot disease of Beta vulgaris (sugar beet) spread through the Netherlands. Attempts to identify this destructive Stemphylium sp. in sugar beet led to a phylogenetic revision of the genus. The name Stemphylium has been recommended for use over that of its sexual morph, Pleospora, which is polyphyletic. Stemphylium forms a well-defined monophyletic genus in the Pleo...

Leaf Spot and Stem Rot on Wilford Swallowwort Caused by Stemphylium lycopersici in Korea

In June 2012, leaf spot and stem rot were observed on Wilford Swallowwort plants grown in Cheonan, Korea. Three fungal isolates obtained from the diseased leaves and stems were identified as Stemphylium lycopersici, based on morphological, cultural, and molecular characteristics and pathogenicity. This is the first report of leaf spot and stem rot on Wilford Swallowwort caused by S. lycopersici.

Population structure of Stemphylium lycopersici associated with leaf spot of tomato in a single field

Stemphylium lycopersici is an important pathogen causing leaf spot of tomatoes worldwide. Although much information is available about the pathogen, little is known about dynamics of S. lycopersici in tomato fields. Seventy-nine symptomatic leaf samples were collected from two tomato cultivars grown in a farm (Miral and Inbred line). Fungal species associated with the disease were isolated on p...
